THE CARPENTER
At the age of 15, Matthew began apprenticing under a master carpenter.
A few years later, he decided to take the next step and become a licensed & bonded contractor under the company name Straight & Level Construction. He is proud to say that he has owned & operated Straight & Level Construction for 20 years now.
Matthew's career in construction began with a healthy dose of grunt work. He paid his dues digging ditches, pulling out brier bushes, & digging post-holes. He cut his teeth on carpentry building fences, decks, running siding, & setting cabinets. Eventually he learned the finer skills of trim & finish carpentry, finding a passion for beautiful design & building precision.
Matthew has experience building custom cabinetry, built-ins, & other furniture. He has been general contracting residential & commercial jobs for years, managing cost & schedule, as well as other trades & subcontractors. Just as any other good general contractor, Matthew is also proficient in framing, basic concrete work, tile work, painting, drywall, texturing, siding, roofing, and basic plumbing & electrical.
An engineer by training, Matthew decided to eschew the cubical life after graduation and continue working where his passion lies: in carpentry.
